Oklahoma Advocates help find balance in new Prescribing Law

For last 6 months, C50 Director Tamera Stewart, C50 Med-Pro Coordinator Kari Kruska, and C50 Advocate Mark Reese spent hours every week meeting with elected officials, attending any meeting that might mention opioids, and educating anyone who would listen to the facts that compassionate prescribing to pain patients is not fueling or creating the overdose crisis.

Meetings with State & Federal elected officials across the country

During the April call2action, more than 30 meetings were set up and attended over the last few months, all with FEDERAL LEGISLATORS! No other pain advocacy group can say they had advocates in 15 or more states meeting with someone in a position to make the BIG life saving changes on a federal level! This is how we win, making them see the real lives that are being ruined, and giving each of them the same updated, high quality information and legislative ask sheet! (In downloads)

In addition to meeting with Federal Reps/Senators, we have confirmed that our advocates met with more than 100 State Legislators and many more appointed/elected officials.

Being asked to represent legitimate pain patients at Drug/Opioid Conferences

In 3 states, our advocates have presented our side at count/state level conferences. At both events, contacts were made that will continue to benefit our community for years. We were also invited to participate in future events as it is being recognized that the pain patient population is not the same as the population that is becoming addicted and overdosing.

In a few other states, we have been asked to send our packet to opioid commissions for inclusion in the materials passed out to their members and displayed on their website.

Finally the line between appropriate medical use and abuse is becoming clear!

High Quality Media

Many of our advocates have been contacted to do stories regarding issues from their doctors offices closing and how it affects them to one where the reporter wanted to know how the pain community felt about the opioid lawsuits.

It is a huge step forward that the media is beginning to think about us when doing any story regarding opioids.  It was not long ago that they rarely covered our side and only when we reached out!

Quick Search for your Congressmen/women

Right now, the most important thing you can do is CALL your federal Representatives and Senators and ask for a meeting during the April congressional break, the week of April 15th.
